Charging in Canada 101: plugs, fast charging, and what to ask before you buy

Charging is where many first-time EV buyers get burned—especially when importing or buying an unfamiliar brand. The good news: most of the complexity can be reduced to a few questions.

The 5 questions that matter

  1. What inlet does it have? (e.g., J1772/CCS or NACS)
  2. Fast-charging peak rate? (kW is helpful, but curves matter too)
  3. Which networks work? (and whether adapters are supported)
  4. Home charging: can you install Level 2 where you park?
  5. Cold-weather behavior: does it precondition for fast charging?

We’ll publish a simple compatibility chart and a “buyer’s checklist” you can screenshot before a dealership visit.

Note: Chinese EV availability, pricing, specifications, and incentive eligibility can change quickly. This site summarizes publicly available information and updates as facts become clear.
